FYI the answer is between 4 and 5 Nerfs at a time. Just did the R & D.

Was using my a 6 foot barrel. Actually my 2 foot barrel with a 4 foot spiral rifled extension. Clocked the field chrono at 200 fps for a single Nerf but my hand held chrono battery was dead for the multi shot field testing.

Strangely, the RANGE and Velocity of the mult shots were not significantly different that the single shot. Guessing they ALL got up to speed in that exceptionally LONG barrel and had enough air volume to do them all.

They all came down in a 15-20 foot diameter pattern at 70 yards. Surprising accuracy. That means the velocity of all the nerfs were essentially the SAME. I wouldn't have predicted that. I expected them to land in a 'string' pattern that would hopefully be 'right' size to bounce one off a tank at very long range assuming I got my windage right.

Wonder if a shorter barrel would give you that 'string pattern' I was expecting? More R & D to do.

Right now just pondering how I could USE a 4-5 shot pattern dropping in a 20 foot circle at 70 yards.

You don't consider the tactics until you develop the capability..

The rest of the accuracy, I will attribute to that spiral rifled barrel.

I shot new and used Nerfs, trimmed and un-trimmed fins to see what that spirial rifled barrel would do. They all went surprisingly straight. Very happy with the spiral rifled performance. Worth the dime.

Another thing I noted was when I went to 5 Nerfs it 'jammed' up and fired VERY short with Nerfs flying erratically was when I used UN-Trimmed Nerfs. The Nerfs that were all trimmed the same diameter of the bulb fired much better with multi rounds. Makes Sense. Was out of air so we don't really KNOW how many Nerfs you can fire at once with trimmed fins.....

Now you breech loader guys might find all this information appealing for a "First SHOT" engagement.

Or as an artillery barrage. Hmmm, I will have to test the Howlers I have to see if they will work (might need to use thin wall due to the tighter fit that the Howlers have. Should be really neat having four to five Howlers screaming in on your location at once. Damn, I have to build a mortar to do this with for this weekends game.

Blast you HH, it wasn't as if I didn't already have enough -marshmallow- to do.

I first heard of this several years ago, apparently it's a good idea to alternate the Nerfs in the tube so every other one is facing backwards. They self correct once they leave the tube. I haven't really tested it though. Around here on the cannon front, hooking up the aluminum barrel is a higher priority. After that would be hooking up the elevation motor and so on and so on.

I have thought though that with the Supah valve a MLRS setup with a large number of tubes would be 'cool'. At least until the price tag of shooting something like 50 Nerfs at a time is figured in anyway.

Spiraling the nerfs in the barrel is counter productive. They are fin stablized on their own and don't need gyroscopic stabilization from rotation. By spiraling them, you are forcing them to rotate when their natural tendency is to fly straight because of the fins as that is the job of the fins. To keep the thing flying straight for stable flight. Armor penetrators work the same way. Look at a bullet, no fins but it is kept spinning to keep it straight in the air.

TL;DR - Cut the fins off or lose the spirals

Kluged the monstrosity together from parts I had laying around in a couple of hours that I should have spent sleeping. Little did I know that the 2" commercial sprinkler valve I had wouldn't work. I don't know if the valve is defective or if it is designed to operate with higher pressure than what I was using. It is a commercial valve from a golf course that had the entire pump/valve system redone. I will do some checking on the valve and replace it with a different one if needed.
