I was checking out a thread at the nation for a modification for shockers known as spring mod v1.
This involves taking a spyder valve spring (silver or black) cutting it down a little and putting it into the bolt with the thinner end touching the bolt guide.
You have to size it so that the bolt completely slides back when you gas up. Too long and it won't completely clear the breech. Too short seems to be less an issue, since the point of this mod seems to be to assist the solenoid in moving the bolt forwards when the gun is fired.
It must be done with a venturi style bolt so that the spring has something to push, so the NDZ and Orange open faced bolts won't work.
WHen I first checked this mod out, I didn't put it into my gun because the spring was so sluggish in pushing the bolt forwards I couldn't see how it was going to cycle the gun very fast, but then I finally decided to try it and it does not interfere with fast enough shooting in anyway.
What's the upside? The upside is that I haven't seen any FSDO or cycling problems at all with this mod. It's made my shocker very very reliable (so far) and though I still do maintenance lubing etc, I don't have any anxiety about the gun not working well on the field.
The thing that sold me on this was that Andy from ZDSPB seems to endorse it, and if he had anything against this mod, it'd be worth listening to, but he doesn't and it seems worth the little effort to ensure reliability.
